Get Drenched

This post has been a LONG time coming! With all of the traveling, eSessions, and now weddings - I've been a bit behind on my personal work. But I just had to get this one done this week! I couldn't wait any longer :)

On Easter Sunday of this year, my church held a baptism service both in the morning at Hope Christian Church, and in the evening at Genesis. Before getting baptized, each person got up and shared their story and explained why they decided to make this commitment. It was very powerful to hear their testimonies and both services were just amazing!

In the morning, we had 3 boys from the youth group get baptized. Our Youth Pastor, David went into the water with them and prayed over each boy. It was really cool to see how confident and excited these guys were that morning!

It was especially cool to witness Sarah's baptism. Her father had the honor of stepping in to the water with her. It was definitely a special moment for both of them.

Later that night, some of my friends at Genesis also took the plunge. The testimonies were very real, very emotional, and very powerful that night. My brother-in-law, Michael is our Pastor and he was so excited to pray for and baptize each of them. It was such a blessing to witness!

This is one of the girls in my LIFEgroup, Elyse. She's just amazing, and I was so proud of and happy for her that I could totally not keep from crying. Even now, I'm tearing up!

And this is my girl, Meaghan, yo! ;) She's also in my LIFEgroup and is getting ready to go on staff with Campus Crusade. I am still praising God for the impact this night had in her life and in the life of those around her!! (If you're interested in supporting Meaghan in her ministry, let me know, or click here)

What a wonderful way to celebrate Easter! Check out the slideshow for more...

Coming to Indianapolis!

I'm so excited! In a few weeks, I'm heading back to the Midwest for a week of family fun. First, I'll be up in Wisconsin for a long weekend with the whole Guenin clan - aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, cousins kids, niece, nephews, everybody! It's bound to be a blast! We've done this every year since 2001, and it's always a good time. My immediate family didn't get to go last year because my brother-in-law was in the hospital with pneumonia. So, we're all excited to be there this time :)

Here's a shot from our very first Guenin Family Vacation, back in 2001 - this time in Michigan. My how our little clan has grown! (Don't you just love the rainbow of matching custom t-shirts?!)

After a long weekend in Wisconsin, we'll be driving back down to Indianapolis for a few days back home. I'm hoping to see some old friends, enjoy some more time with the fam, and hang out on my parents' boat & SeaDoo! Plus, I'm planning on shooting at least one portrait session while I'm in town. I figure, as long as I'm shooting one, I might as well see if anyone else is interested....

If you'd like to schedule a portrait session, let me know!! Engagement, post-wedding, pregnancy, baby, kids, or family sessions are available starting at $300. Drop me a line if you'd like to set up a time for the week of July 14th...

Evan & Kelly's Engagement Session

A couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to hang out with Evan & Kelly and take some engagement portraits. Evan & Kelly live in Cambridge and spend a lot of time around Harvard, just like Jessica & Albert. It was a fun challenge to do their eSession just a week later, and in basically the same location. It pushed me to think creatively and come up with images that were different. It is made easier when you're dealing with different people though - as every couple has a unique way of interacting with one another and therefore ends up with different images.

We started at their lovely apartment and walked towards Harvard Memorial Church, where they'll be getting married this weekend!

They have a cute little park right by their house. There's a bunch of construction, and some frisbee playing going on in the background, but we made it work :)

As we continued on our way, we passed by Cambridge Rindge & Latin School - which has these awesome red doors. I couldn't walk by without taking some photos! What a great spot for portraits!!

And then there was a playground with this amazing wrought iron fence. I'm obsessed with taking pictures of wrought iron fences...

And then on to Harvard Yard where we shot on the steps of Widener Library.

And then we walked over to the Charles River where we got some of my favorite shots of the day. The light was just perfect!

By that point, Kelly was sufficiently worn out

So we headed back to their apartment

When we got back home, they showed me some beautiful old family photographs. Kelly's great-grandmother was actually a photographer back in the day. It's so cool that Kelly has these wonderful old photographs that have become priceless family heirlooms. It got us talking a bit about the timeless quality of black & white prints. And I'm so excited because they decided to have me shoot some black & white film at their wedding this weekend!! I got my start in film, and I still love it! Don't get me wrong, digital has come a long way and you can't beat its flexibility. But there is just nothing quite like a black & white fiber-base print made in the darkroom. hmmmm...

Anyway, this is my take on one of those old photos.

Evan & Kelly, it was so great hanging out with you guys! I can't wait for the wedding this weekend!!

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to all you Dads out there!! Especially to the best Dads I know...

My Dad is the best, of course! My Dad spent his day going on a 50 mile bike ride with his buddies, shopping for presents w/ Mom, and then had most of his family over for the afternoon. He even got to go for a boat ride. It sounds like a great day to me! I hope you enjoyed it Dad :) I can't wait to see you in a few weeks!!!

Another great Dad is my brother-in-law, Michael. I hope you had an awesome Father's Day, bro!

And Happy Father's Day to the rest of the awesome Dads in my life - Grandpa, all my uncles, and all of my Dad-friends :) I hope you all enjoyed the day - and that your kids were extra nice to you today!!

Back From Haiti!

Well, I'm officially back from Haiti and back to work! It was a great trip and I'm really excited to go through the 4,200 photos I shot! But, first things first - I've got engagement sessions waiting for me. So, I guess you'll all have to wait a little while too...

To tide you over, here's a shot of Bolosse - the area of Port-au-Prince where I spent most of my time.

More to come!!!
